"The Nazis were pretty sick but damn they did dress well!"
I will start my article with this humorous sentence because that's exactly what I think when I see documentaries about Nazism. And maybe that's exactly what other people (including goths) think too. And maybe that's also why many goths are attracted to dressing like a Nazi, but this doesn't mean we are nazis or that we are all nazis. Of course, like among any other culture or religion, there are always people who take things too seriously and happen to be deviated.
Everyone can have their own political beliefs wheter right or wrong, but you cannot deny the Third Reich is somehow the most fascinating history era, maybe because it does sound like a fictional horror-psycho story. Nazis are in fact very often fantasized as zombies, people with no heart who's only goal is to kill and destroy all besides themselves without a particular reason and who follow the orders of a man (the fuhrer) that is almost a ghost that whispers evil things in their ears..Isn't it fascinating somehow? Some movies with nazi zombies are Dead Snow and Sucker Punch for example.

But again why are some goths attracted by the nazi? and are Goths actually Nazi or Neo-nazists?
For what I know personally, no. They are just attracted by the clothing. And also I did some research on the internet to read other opinions and once again. No. Goths aren't neo-nazists. I mean there might be some, i don't know all the goths in the world! and anyway as human beings, goths can choose their political side. Just do not make one size fits all!
In italy, for example there are some neo-nazists who took the color black as their political flag. Fascists (who were Nazists symphathetics during the Third Reich -see about Mussolini) wore a black uniform. And some ignorant people think that if you wear black all the time it means you are a fascist a.k.a. neo-nazist -_-"
Now we all know that black is goths favourite color as it resembles the darkness but it's not our political flag!
( the famous Nazi uniform)
I read also that during the Wave-Gotik-Treffen of 2002 in Germany (the biggest gothic festival in the world) some goths where even attacked by a group of neo-nazists and they spent most of the time trying to defend themselves for this kids. ( I don't know if this truly happen, just read it on the web, if someone of you was there please tell :P)
Sites I read and took some infos from:

RELATED FACTS:
Lead singer of industrial Swedish band Deathstars uses a nazi inspired uniform as trademark clothing, but instead of the nazi symbol, he has the one of the band.
As said by Pink Plum Fairy , german gothic band ASP is known for supporting anti-nazism.

Very well done post! I had been looking for some infos about this too but didn't find anything this clearly written.
i'm a goth but definitely not a nazi, even though I do, as you say, find it a fascinating era and loved it studying at school.
:)
My ex-boyfriend was goth and neo-nazi (now think about, why I say ex ;) ) and I think he's a big exception.
Some german goth bands like ASP for example support anti-nazi groups and they even printed in one of their booklets that this music isn't for nazis ;)
The punks wore Nazi stuff for the shock value; that's why Siouxsie wore the swastika. The rest of the people though, I do agree that it's probably because of the spiffy uniforms.
