HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOTHIC DIVINE MAGAZINE!

To be honest the real birthday of this blog was 9th November when the very first introductory post was written. I chose to celebrate it today because the magazine was officially opened to everybody to read on 11th November 2009. And this year the 11th November is also a very cool date as it's all an eleven! 11/11/11 :)

Yes it's this blog 3rd birthday! This is the 280th post and we are looking forward to write more and to improve the blog contents, writing and designs. This blog was born out of a random idea, (not really a "magazine" but I liked how the name sounded eheh) and the aim was and still is to gather all information possible about the goth subculture.

Thank you all who follow, read and support this blog! It wouldn't even have sense if it wasn't for you :P

Almost 180 followers and almost 130,000 views..Success way greater than expected!!

We love you,

Gothic Divine Staff

Gothic Charm School

Gothic Charm School is an invention of Jillian Venters also known as the Lady Of Manners.  Since 1998 she's been writing " an essential guide for goths and those who love them " .

"the world of Gothic Charm School, where the Lady of the Manners spends a not-inconsiderable amount of time trying to gently persuade others in her chosen subculture that being a Goth and being polite is much, much more subversive than just wearing black t-shirts with ‘”edgy” sayings on them.
There’s an added benefit to being a Goth and having good manners; it’s actually more shocking to some people than the “Booooo! I’m so spooky and scary!” freakshow antics they expect from Goths. " ( taken from the official site http://www.gothiccharmschool.com/)

She writes articles both for young goths and for parents of goths or elder goths. Here are some example of the tematics she wrote about:

For the younger Goths:

Help, my parents won’t let me be a Goth!

Talking to parents about their disapproval of your gothy ways.

Goths and school.

On dealing with school dress codes.

For the parents of younger Goths, and for gothy parents:

Raising a Goth.

Being a gothy parent.

Of parents worrying about “Drama”.

For the ElderGoths:

Too old to be a Goth? and Too old to be a Goth, revisited.

Returning to your gothy style after a hiatus.

Aging gracefully.

Some fashion advice:

A quick primer on achieving a gothy look.

Of dressing to flatter one’s figure, and of Elegant Gothic Lolita, Deathrock, and Victorian fashion.

Some fashion advice specifically for the gentlemen.

Recently a book based on her site has been released and got quite a big success (the pic at the beginning of the article is the book cover!!). You can find info about it in the site. I also suggest to take a look at the Lady Of Manners videos like this one:

You can find others always in http://www.gothiccharmschool.com/ , It's always updated ^_^

Retro Hairstyles

Welcome back to GothicDivine Magazine ! I noticed that most of Goths love the pin-up look , especially the hair-dos. They mainly take inspiration from pin-up first lady Bettie Page and her disciple Dita Von Teese. As I'm trying to make "victory rolls" on my head , I went looking for Tutorial videos on YouTube and also ended up in this site about all retro hairstyle from the 20s to the 90s :). The pin-up looks are of course in the 40s/50s section. Check it out at  http://www.retrohairstyles.com/  and
http://retro-hairstyle.com/40s-hairstyles

Pin-up look is awesome with all kinds of face shapes and hair color ;)

For the videos on how to make pin-up hair-dos I think these are the best ! even the music is right :)

I hope this was useful to all of you goth-pin-up lovers :)

Eyeshadow, Lipstick and foundation.. Tricks and Tips!

Some of you do not know what "miracles" you can do with your make-up ! Did you know that you can turn your eyeshadow into eyeliner?? It's easy!! All you need is to wet the applicator (not too much) and your eyeshadow will become more intense and will result perfect if put as eyeliner!!

To make brighter colors look even brighter put a white eyeshadow on your eyelid before the bright
colored one!

Also..Did you know that you can turn your lipstick into blush for your cheeks?? All you need to do is to make two or three (depending on how dark it is) soft hints of lipstick on your cheek and fade it with your fingers till you get a blush effect! With this trick your "blush" will last longer too :P

And know a funny incredible thing I found on the internet, a video of Michelle (a make-up artist who became famous on YouTube!) totally changing her nose shape with foundation!! Take a look !!

This is also a cool video because she shows a Vampire make-up tutorial as you have seen :)

I hope this was useful to all the make-up lovers reading!

Have a nice day Gothic darlings!

♥BallerinaDark♥

PS. Sorry the video is too big for the page format..anyway you can look for it on YouTube..just write Seductive Vampire make-up tutorial.. :)

Artist Of The Week- Anne Stokes

For this week Artist Of The Week I present you illustrator Anne Stokes !

I couldn't find a biography of her except this few lines :P

The fantasy art of Anne Stokes has been featured on many book, covers, games and merchandise products. Her striking designs and life like portrayals of fantasy subjects are widely acclaimed.

She has now created a portfolio of fantasy artworks for license under the brand name of "Anne Stokes Collection". Anne is delighted to be working with Art Ask Agency, and they already have many new and exciting license projects underway. Anne lives in Yorkshire, UK.

She divides her work in Fantasy (like the pic above) and Goth&Horror (like the pic more above!). Seems that she did some works for game Dungeons&Dragons too :)

As many other artist she began her career by posting her artworks on deviantart.com.

If you want to check out more of her artworks or something more about her check out her official site

Elizabeth Bathory-The Legend Of Blood Countess

Countess Elizabeth Báthory (Báthory Erzsébet , August 7, 1560 – August 21, 1614) was a countess from the renowned Báthory family. She is possibly the most prolific female serial killer in history and is remembered as the "Blood Countess" . After her husband's death, she and four collaborators were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls and young women, with one witness attributing to them over 600 victims, though the number for which she was convicted was 80. The case has led to legendary accounts of the Countess bathing in the blood of virgins in order to retain her youth and subsequently also to comparisons with Vlad III the Impaler of Wallachia, on whom the fictional Count Dracula is partly based, and to modern nicknames of the Blood Countess. On 21 August 1614, Elizabeth Báthory was found dead in her castle. Since there were several plates of food untouched, her actual date of death is unknown.

According to the testimonies, her initial victims were local peasant girls, many of whom were lured to Čachtice by offers of well-paid work as maidservants in the castle. Later she is said to have begun to kill daughters of lower gentry, who were sent to her gynaeceum by their parents to learn courtly etiquette. Abductions were said to have occurred as well. At the trial there were accusations of pagan practices and witchcraft.

The descriptions of torture that emerged during the trials were often based on hearsay. The atrocities described most consistently included:

◘severe beatings over extended periods of time, often leading to death

◘burning or mutilation of hands, sometimes also of faces and genitalia

◘biting the flesh off the faces, arms and other bodily parts including biting off and eating the bellybuttons

◘freezing to death

◘surgery on victims, often fatal

◘starving of victims

◘sexual abuse

The use of needles was also mentioned by the collaborators in court.

This story remains one of the most controversial events in Medieval times. Many bands and artists where inspired by Elisabeth Bathory...

Picks of the week

I was posting earlier about 'keeping your eyes open'.

For those who are skeptic I looked up some stuff and now it's going to be my

'Picks of the week' category.

Weekly I show you what treasures you can find at regular shops.

I'll 'keep my eyes open' and look around in online shops and maybe take some pics in stores for you.

This week I found some things at H & M for you.

I love the skirt ( but I am not a 'common' size so I won't fit in xD)

And the hat thing <3>

Have a spooky wednesday.
