Makeup Review No. 1

After seeing the results of the recent poll, you gothic lovelies seemed to be of the opinion that you'd like MORE makeup features :)

So I figured that maybe it'd be good to get a regular feature going whereby different makeups are reviewed? That is to say, instead of just writing about generic types of makeups and styles, we can look more in depth at the products themselves :) Just a suggestion. If it's not popular, we can scrap this :)

Right then...

Review No. 1:

Product: Rimmel London Colour Mousse 8hr Eye Shadow

Colour: 013, Galaxy (i.e., deep metallicy purple)

Price: £4.99 from a Boots store.

Consistency: A really smooth creamy texture - at first I didn't think it would last the 8 hours!

Application: You really don't need too much at all - a little goes a long way. Best to apply with a clean finger in a dabbing motion. Initially comes out quite dark. It's important to keep your eyes closed when applying, until it has ''dried'', or else you risk creasing. I added 3 layers to really build up an intense colour. When finished, it looks really beautiful, and it has a lovely effect when the light catches it. Wearing it to work, it lasted maybe 6 - 7 hours before creasing and losing some of its colour - but I do work in a hot kitchen/restaurant! The next time I wore it, I put primer on underneath, and this time, it lasted quite literally ALL day! Maybe around 10 hours :)

Overall:
Positive: Does what it says on the box - lasts a very long time. Really nice texture. Beautiful colour.
Negative: Need a couple of layers to ensure an intense colour. A little expensive - but seeing as you don't need much to apply it, I think this product will last a long time, so in all, it IS good value.

I *SO* need to sort my eyebrows out :-/

If any of you have used this product before, or have any other recommendations, let me know! :D

The Eyebrows Dilemma

We all know that to create a more dramatic make-up, eyebrows are an important part of the process. I first became aware of this "fashion" of shaving eyebrows off by watching Adora Batbrat make-up tutorials. I didn't truly notice it before but since I watched the tutorials, I realised that many goths have in fact drawn eyebrows!

But drawing eyebrows is not a simple thing. Yes, you only need an eyebrow pencil, or liquid or gel eyeliner but it's the drawing the most difficult part.

(image taken from karma-manipulation.deviantart.com)

Eyebrows have to be the most symmetrical possible, they have to have the same lenght and the same height and also the same amount of eyeliner. Also you have to check what kind of eyebrow designs suite your face the most. Otherwise you might end up looking like a clown or just looking dumb!

(other eyebrow designs to take inspiration from!)

So to shave or not to shave your eyebrows off? Well, it's up to you, if you think you can handle designing perfect eyebrows everyday, if you think you have technique, do it! Maybe do some trials first. Cover your current eyebrows with a thick layer of foundation and draw them in a different shape. If you see you have no problem with it, shave it.

Otherwise you better leave them on, and maybe just make them more perfect with an eyebrow pencil or even with a dark eyeshadow! To be sure they are symmetrical you have to take measurement with your eyebrow pencil like in the picture below:

Good luck with your eyebrows! ^_^

Fake Eyelashes - Paperself

Sometimes reading the starblog on stardoll regularily can be a good thing. Look what I found:

These are fake eyelashes. They were mady by a company called Paperself inspired by the art of Chinese paper cutting. I think they're just marvellous and really good fitting to the goth scene.
I think together with a great make-up you'll be the star of every party ;)

Here are the other designs:

You can buy these in their online shop for 15 Pounds for each pair. Maybe you'll take a look.

Aren't these amazing??? *-*

Some advice, there are now in commerce some eyeliner pencils made with gel that are fantastic!! they are very long-lasting and easy to put as you don't have to "push hard" to make bold lines. And if you want to have a bolder eyeshadow just put a little water on the applicator! :)
