THE CROW (CULT FILM)

The Crow is a 1994 American action-thriller film adaptation of the 1989 comic book of the same name by James O'Barr. The film was written by David J. Schow and John Shirley, and directed by Alex Proyas.

The Crow stars Brandon Lee, in his final film, as Eric Draven, a rock musician who is revived from the dead to avenge his own murder, as well as that of his fiancée. While filming during the last weeks of production, Lee was mortally wounded when a dummy bullet, which had become lodged in one of the prop guns, was shot into his abdomen by a squib. Despite the incident, the film was a critical and commercial success after its release, opening at the top of the box office.On March 31, 1993 at EUE Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, North Carolina, Brandon Lee sustained an accidental gunshot wound on the set of the film. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died. There were eight days left before shooting of the film was to be completed. The scenes involving Lee and Shinas' characters in their apartment had been saved for the end of filming so that Lee could work the final week without makeup. In the story, Lee's character comes to his apartment where his girlfriend is being raped by a gang of thugs, and then he is shot and killed by Michael Massee's character, playing one of the thugs. Weeks prior to the event, a scene was being filmed that required dummy rounds to be shown being loaded into the handgun. Inexperienced crew members, pressured by time constraints, purchased live ammunition, removed the bullets, dumped the gunpowder, and then replaced the bullets back into the empty cartridges with the live primers still in place.

 THE CROW SOUNDTRACK :

The original soundtrack album for The Crow features songs from the film, and was a chart-topping album. It included work by The Cure (their song, "Burn", became the film's main theme), The Jesus and Mary Chain, Rage Against the Machine, Helmet and Stone Temple Pilots.

Several groups performed covers. Nine Inch Nails rendered Joy Division's "Dead Souls"; Rollins Band covered Suicide's "Ghost Rider"; and Pantera performed Poison Idea's "The Badge". The Stone Temple Pilots song "Big Empty" won an MTV Movie Award in 1995. It was not their original choice for the soundtrack. They recorded a version of "Only Dying", a demo they had recorded earlier as Mighty Joe Young, which was replaced following Lee's death.

Goths of colour

I myself am a dark skinned goth. I've heard people make fun of me because of that but I never really cared because being that different always made me feel unique :P . Anyway I thought I was the only "black goth" in the entire world as some people of colour feel alienated from embracing a subculture where everyone is expected to look pale as a ghost but it seems I'm not the only one. I've been looking around on the internet trying to find some infos about "non-conventional" goths (also called interracial goths or ethnical goths) and I ended up in this wonderful essay written by a dark skinned goth called Lucy Furr. I suggest you all read it.
it's long but it's worth it. It will totally make you understand what goth is and why ANYONE can be goth.

Deathrockers

Often described as the missing link between Goth and Punk, this group, in no doubt, are quite unique. What makes deathrockers so distinct from the rest? Influenced by cheesy horror films, deathrockers started out as a music genre that emerged in the late 70's and early 80's around the time Punk was popluar. One of the first set of Deathrockers emerged from Los Angeles. The subculture spread out all the way to England, where a club, called "The Batcave" was opened to celebrate the dark twist of music. Deathrockers would tend to listen to Punk, Deathrock, Goth rock, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, and Glam rock. One of the most recommended band out there are Christian Death, Alien Sex Fiend, 45 Grave, Sex Gang Children, and Kommunity FK. Deathrockers tend to wear fishnets, tons of makeup, accessories, stripes, torn clothing, and the "Deathhawk" (which is a mohawk worn by many deathrockers). One of the many stereotypical characteristics is that they have a wicked, morbid sense of humor, but if you ask me, they have a wonderful personality, very intelligent and artistic too.

London After Midnight is a musical project from United States formed by the singer, songwriter and multi-intrumentalist Sean Brennan in 1990. The live band varies and often changes but include Sean Brennan in vocals, guitar, keyboard, video, all programming, Randy Mathias in bass, Pete Pace in drums and Matthew Setzer in guitar.
Sean Brennan is known for his strong stances in favor of animal rights, pro-environmental and human rights issues, anti-corporate control of media, and support for progressive and liberal political and social causes. Whatever the approach or subject matter, the music of London After Midnight is deeply touching, powerful, socially aware, romantic, emotional, disturbing, haunting, moving, and often exhibits a morbid wit with its sardonic humor.
If well Sean has mentioned don't like label the London  After Midnight music specially with the term "gothic" (curious because in LAM myspace says gothic), the sound of the band is unique, combining Gothic Rock, Darkwave, and a bit (very bit) of Industrial from their last album .
Despite this, LAM has gained a lot of loyal  followers specially from gothic  subculture around the world, above all in Europe, EEUU, Latin America, Japan, China and elsewhere they have visited fortunately.
In 2006 their song "Fear" appear in Saw II soundtrack.
Almost 20 years of carrer with four studio albums of  excellent quality to date with their own sound and thematics a little unusually in this dark atmosphere.

What do you get when you mix classy, elegance, and a few dark and spooky things? You get a wonderful breed of "Victorian Goths". Exactly where did they come from? During the Victorian era, there was a high rise in gothic literature and arts, the most famous, Edgar Allen Poe. One of the most influential of modern victorian goths is Viona Ielegems and Emilie Autumn. Victorian goths are known for their fashion influenced by vampyrism of ballgowns, lace, gloves, corsets, chokers, and many elegant accesories. Victorian goths engage in activities such as writing, reading, watching plays, and viewing art. Their music style ranges from classical (Beathoven) and folk to symphonic metal (Epica). Ego Likeness was created by artist Steven Archer and writer Donna Lynch in Baltimore, United States in 1999, Taking their name from Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel Dune. Steven and Donna have been married since October of 1999 and currently live in Baltimore, Meryland with two hairless cats.
Their music has ranged of genres since their origins, begining with darkly experimental Trip-Hop in their demo "Songs From a Dead City", to moody and melodic Dark Electro with their first album "Dragonfly", to a fusion of Industrial Rock for hard guitars sounds and Darkwave that shown in "Water to the Dead" and "The Order of the Reptile".
Steven also is the creator of the atmospheric electronica project Hopeful Machines, and performs with the DC industrial, power noise act Blind Till Now. He is also a resident DJ at Spellbound in DC and Ascension.
Both make up the experimental, spoken word outfit "The Trinity Project" and have released two albums under that name "The Trinity Project I" in 2001 and "The Subtle Movements of the Entropy Engine" in 2003.
Steven, isn't only a musician, if not he's also a graduate of The Corcoran School of Art, continues to exhibit paintings and mixed media pieces in various galleries, stores, conventions and venues throughout the US,He is also a regular contributor to Weird Tales Magazine and Steampunk Magazine. He is the author of a children's book, "Luna Maris", like Donna, who has written numerous poems and short stories, and released two collections of poetry "In My Mouth"' and "Ladies & Other Vicious Creatures" Her first novel "Isabel Burning" debuts on 2008. She has also collaborated with Steven on several art projects, including a handmade, limited edition illustrated book called "Twenty-Six (An Uncommon Book of ABCs)" and a series of Key and Lock paintings, which will be released as a complete collection in book form in the future.
In addition to The Cruxshadows, the band have had the honour to share the stage with a lot of diverse artist through all this years.

Emilie Autumn...News for the fans

I recently found out (maybe some of you already knew) that Emilie Autumn has realeased a book called "THE ASYLUM FOR WAYWARD VICTORIAN GIRLS".

What is the book about?

Only Black?? Hell no.

Looking around on the internet and also on Stardoll I could see that many associate goth with the color black a bit too much. Most of these people think that only wearing black all the time makes you look goth but the truth is the exact contrary. The color black is in fact the color of darkness, of mistery and of the unknown, of fear but you should also consider wearing colors like PURPLE , RED, BLUE, GREEN and even PINK. I've seen goths saying the stupid stereotype that goths hate pink and light blue. Absurd. The point is not what color you wear but HOW you wear it. Let's make a clear example with the color pink. Cybergoths

"What is Cybergoth?" you may ask. Cybergoth is the one of the most common forms of goth around. Their style is heavily influenced by Rivethead, Steampunk, and Raver style. You can easily identify them by bondage gear, platform boots, glossy clothing, synthetic dreads, goggles, and the enormous amount of neon colors they wear. As far as the music goes, Cybergoths would usually tend to listen to EBM, Electro, Industrial, Techno, Trance, and Synth-pop. Cybergoths are usually found at the nightlife scene (bars,clubs, lounges, etc.) or around the internet, and can be very social. Chances are you might've already met them ^_^

Lacrimosa is a gothic band formed in Germany by Tilo Wolff in November of 1990.
Currently residing in Switzerland and is formed by the permanents members Tilo Wolff on vocals, piano, guitar, trumpet, fluegelhorn and Anne Nurmi on vocals, keyboard, synths with addition to supporting music, who have varied over the years, Jay P Genkel in guitar, Dirk Wolff in guitar, Yenz Leonhardt in bass and Mane Uhlig in drums.
Tilo Wolff is the owner of the label "Hall Of Sermon", Lacrimosa edits all his albums in it like another bands.
Lacrimosa mix musical styles such as elements of gothic metal, gothic rock, trumpet, and other classical instruments. Their lyrics are written primarily in German, although some of his albums have content in english, spanish, latin and finnish. Their songs mainly are about loneliness, sadness, darkness, despair, happiness, hope, despair, death and love.
In The Begining the songs of the band was of the Darkwave genre, with melancholic and nostalgic melodies accompained of a depresive, deep and nostalgic voice, wich is demostrated in their demo cassette "Clamor" and Their first albums "Angst" and "Einsamkeit", this last album have Gothic Rock influences wich persist in the next album "Satura" where  covers topics such as fear, helplessness, loneliness, the non-existence, lack of love and death. Every album onwards, from Satura, has a song that is taken as a single later.
In the beginning of 1994 Anne Nurmi joined to the band as a second and permanant member. She was part founder, and also a singer and keyboard player of the Finnish band Two Witches, put new emphasis within the music of Lacrimosa with her extraordinary voice and composing skills. In 1995 they released "Inferno", where Anne Nurmi full participation in the making, collaborating with her voice for the first time, in this album we can hear different music than that of their earlier work, giving it a touch heavier, using guitars, bass and keyboard, arguably, the now familiar Gothic Rock becoming in Gothic Metal, but it is not until 1997 the band releases "Stille", an album that can be described as Gothic Metal. in 1998 releases their first live album, "Live", followed by "Elodia" in 1999 reducing the power of guitars,focusing on symphonic elements with the support of the famous London Symphony Orchestra, sounds continue in the album of 2001 "Fassade", also including soft melodies. In 2003 was released "Echos", an album focused on Classical and Symphonic elements, leaving out the sounds of guitars. "Lichtgestalt" was released in 2005 whe the content again to emphasize themes of love and light using elements of Classical music and Gothic Metal. After two years of Lichtgestalt tour, in 2007 goes on sale its second live album, titled "Lichtjahre". "Sehnsuch" was released in 2009, is characterized by the clear implementation of trumpets and having a heavier sound than the previous album.
By May 2010, on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary, on sale Lacrimosa launched a new album titled "Schattenspiel". It contains 18 songs. 14 previous unreleased albums and two entirely new.

Lacrimosa is a gothic group par excellence, because they have evolve in sound, retain their original essence in some way in their compositions.

Charles Pierre Baudelaire (pronounced /ˌboʊdəˈlɛər/; French: [ʃaʁl bodlɛʁ]; April 9, 1821 – August 31, 1867) was a nineteenth-century French poet, critic, translator and... drug addict. A controversial figure in his lifetime, Baudelaire's name has become a byword for literary and artistic decadence. At the same time his works, and in particular his book of poetry Les fleurs du mal (The Flowers of Evil), are acknowledged as classics of French literature.

In 1846 and 1847, Baudelaire became acquainted with the works of Poe, in which he found tales and poems that had, he claimed, long existed in his own brain but never taken shape. Baudelaire had much in common with Poe (who died in 1849 at age forty). Both had a similar sensibility and macabre and supernatural turn of mind; both struggled with illness, poverty, and melancholy. Baudelaire saw in Poe a precursor and tried to be his French contemporary counterpart. From this time until 1865, he was largely occupied with translating Poe's works; his translations were widely praised. Baudelaire was not the first French translator of Poe, but his "scrupulous translations" were considered among the best.
