Switchblade Symphony was a Gothic Rock band with some touches Darkwave, Downtempo/Trip-Hop [i consider them more dawntempo than trip-hop as said] and Electronic from San Francisco, United States formed at front by Tina Root (now with her solo project Tre Lux and Small Halo) on vocals and the composer Susan Wllace in 1989, accompained for two live guitarists, first Robin Jacobs (who later joined Razor Skyline) and then George Earth (since 2008 in Small Halo with Tina Root), and two live drummers, first Eric Gebow (now with Blue Man Group) and then Scott van Shoick. The band's name refers to the result of cutting up elements of classical music to mix them with harder sounds.
Their music combine orchestral sounds with heavy synth sequences without forget their classic and characteristic sinister piano sound, ethereal and dramatic vocals into a dark and sinister atmosphere with horror, macabre, love, dreams, nightmares lyrics.
Seven studio albums and one live album and video "Sweet Little Witches" released after their dissolution in 2003 form part of the musical career of the band.
In 1998 their song "Clown" appear in the soundtrack of the film Wicked.
Switchblade Symphony disbanded in november of 1999.
